LA GRANDE, Ore. – Irene Olivo has been named Red Lion Women’s Outdoor Track Athlete of the Week and Brian Wickham has been named Men’s Outdoor Field Athlete of the Week, the Cascade Conference office announced Monday.
Olivo, a senior from Parma, Idaho, hit the NAIA “A” standard in the 400 meter hurdles at the Pacific Twilight as she ran a time of 1:03.45 to win the event. Olivo followed that up with a third place finish in the 100 meter hurdles were she ran a time of 15.76.
Wickham, a junior from Jerome, Idaho, hit the NAIA “A” standard in the discus and hammer throw at the Pacific Twilight. On his second throw of the day in the discus, Wickham recorded a toss of 48.07 meters (157-08) which placed him second in the event. This is his longest discus throw of the season. He followed the discus up with a first place finish in the hammer throw as he recorded a throw of 55.66 meters (182-07).
Olivo and Wickham and the rest of the Mountaineers return to action on Friday, May 9 when they take part in the Cascade Collegiate Conference Championships presented by U.S. Bank.
