Portland band One From Many made their second trip to La Grande on April 10 and 11. The band’s first visit occurred in November of 2013 when they played the Art Center with Bag of Hammers. This time, they played Thursday at Ten Depot Street and then again Friday at the Art Center.
Thursday’s show was an acoustic set that had the small crowd enjoying the music. A group of OHSU nursing students were celebrating a birthday, so the band played “Happy Birthday” for them. Also, there was a small group of music lovers in attendance from the Eastern Oregon Music Community, a campus club. One member of the band stopped and introduced himself to the club members.
One From Many wrapped up their calm set in preparation for a busier, and much louder Friday, which started at KEOL for a quick on-air interview. There they recapped their adventures that led to the band returning to La Grande.
Both Trigger and Drew, the two members of the band that were at the radio station, said that they liked La Grande the first time since it is such a slow-paced environment. Grayson Dean, lead singer of Whisky Barrel Rocker, seconded these sentiments.
The Friday night show at the Art Center was sponsored by The River, KCMB, KVBL, and Project Human. It opened with locals Whisky Barrel Rocker, who rocked the show. Surprisingly, the crowd was fairly large for a La Grande show. Another popular local band, Sum People followed, and One From Many closed out the show.
During One From Many’s set, Griffin Fleming, EOU student, and member of Whisky Barrel Rocker jumped on stage and joined the band during their set. Friday’s show included much more sound; a lot more of a “rock” feel, while Thursday’s show gave the feeling of relaxation.
Hopefully, One From Many will return to La Grande again soon. Until then, visit them at ofmmusic.com. Or find them in another venue and experience their brand of rock and roll.
