College Place, Wash. – The No. 9 ranked EOU men’s basketball team defeated Walla Walla University, 75-53.
Junior transfer Tony Eackles Jr. and senior Jason Mumm each posted double-doubles for the Mountaineers (5-0, 0-0 CCC). Eackles had a game high 23 points and 12 rebounds and Mumm had 13 points and 10 rebounds.
The Mountaineers struggled in the first half offensively, shooting 9-29 from the field, and 3-10 from behind the arc. The Mountaineers trailed at half by 2, 28-26.
In the second half the Mountaineers picked up their offense with the sharp shooting of Eackles. Eackles went 3-3 from the three point line in the second half and 5-5 for the game.
“I was proud of how our team responded in the second half after struggling in the first twenty minutes,” said head coach Isaac Williams. “We still have a lot of room for improvement, but this group believes in each other and that could take us a long way.”
EOU shot 29-71 (40%) from the field, 6-22 (27%) from behind the arc and went 11-19 from the free throw line.
The Walla Walla Wolves were led by Tyreek Luckett with 12 points, 7 rebounds and 4 assists. Tristan Greenidge added 10 points and 4 rebounds.
Eastern will travel to Spokane to take on University of Montana Western on Friday, Nov. 9 then University of Great Falls on Saturday. Game times are 4 p.m. and 6 p.m.
