Writing Center Director Donna Evans received a call for help Tuesday, Nov. 6 in the form of an email. Evans and her tutoring staff nobly answered the call.

The email requested that university writing centers help Hurricane Sandy affected students catch up on writing assignments. “In the wake of Hurricane Sandy, among the many kinds of help needed is the need to assist the hundreds of thousands, at least, of students that fell behind with writing and academic projects,” Belinda Kremer said. Kremer is the director of ASU’s writing center. She initiated the nationwide call for help.

Evans has dedicated 10 hours of writing center tutoring time per week during weeks 7, 8 and 9—the busiest weeks of the term for her tutoring staff. Ten student tutors will volunteer one hour a week to the effort in assisting hurricane-affected students get back on their feet scholastically.
